How to use click to chat

WhatsApp's click to chat feature allows you to begin a chat with someone without having their phone number saved in your phone's address book. As long as you know this person’s phone number and they have an active WhatsApp account, you can create a link that will allow you to start a chat with them. By clicking the link, a chat with the person automatically opens. Click to chat works on both your phone and WhatsApp Web.

You will need to create your own link, create a pre filled message, and then add it to the social media section of your builder.

Create your own link

The first thing you will need to do is create your own link to add to your social media section within your website builder.

Use the following format:<number> where the <number> is a full phone number in international format. Omit any zeroes, brackets, or dashes when adding the phone number in international format.

Create your own link with a pre-filled message

Next you will need to create a message to popup to send to you when users click to chat through your website. The pre-filled message will automatically appear in the text field of a chat.

Use the following format: where whatsappphonenumber is a full phone number in international format and urlencodedtext is the URL-encoded pre-filled message.



You will need to follow the format of:

add%your%text% to replace the urlencodedtext that appears in the URL


After clicking on the link, you’ll be shown a list of contacts you can send your message to.

Adding to Social Media Section

Now that you have your custom WhatsApp message link you can add it to the social media section of your builder.

Go into Site > Social Media in the editor sidebar, and then under the WhatsApp section add your custom link that you created, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Settings.

Make sure to toggle all social media option that you want displayed on your website to 'on' so that they appear when you add the social media module to your website page.

Now, when you add a social media module to your page it will display the selected options as icons that users can click on the live website.

In the case of WhatsApp when users click the WhatApp icon on your live website it will open a WhatsApp conversation with your number, and automatically add the selected pre-populated text to the chat for them to send a message to you.
