So you’ve started a Bookmark e-Learning Course. Congratulations! This guide will show you how to progress through your course towards completion - and a spiffy new badge!
Step 1: Starting the Course
If you actually haven’t started a course yet, please see our guide How to Start a Bookmark e-Learning Course. Spoiler alert: open a course by clicking on the title or image on the e-Learning home page, then click the “Start Course” button.
When you click Start course, the first lecture will open, and you’ll be on your way.
Step 2: Moving Forward through the Lectures
The course lectures are meant to be studied in the order in which they appear in the course overview index. As you read through each lecture and come to the bottom of the page, you will see a checkbox beside the word Completed. Once you’ve read the material, and taken any notes you wish (see our guide: How to Take Notes for your Bookmark e-Learning Course):
check the box Completed
click the Next button.
It is possible to proceed within a section without checking the Completed box, but the course Progress Tracker will not count the lecture towards your completion of the course.
It is also possible to “uncheck” the box if you decide you aren’t entirely finished with the lecture.
Step 3: Taking it Back a Step
Once you’ve proceeded to the next page, don’t worry! You can always go back to previous lectures or pages by clicking the Previous button, even if you’ve checked the Completed box. In fact, as long as you are a Bookmark member, the e-learning courses are always open for you to come back to review as often as you like.
Step 4: Taking a break - exiting the course between lectures
An important thing to note is that you absolutely do not need to complete a Bookmark e-Learning course in one sitting. In fact, it is not recommended.
To exit an e-learning course at any time, scroll to the top of the page and click on the course title (remember to check the Completed box first, if you’ve finished the lecture). This will take you to the course overview page. From there you can navigate to anywhere in Bookmark.
For example, if you are taking the Getting to Know the Internet course, and you are on the lecture page for “What are Cookies and how can they affect me”, to exit, go to the top of the page and click on the title “Getting to know the internet”. You will return to the course overview page.
Step 5: Resuming a Course after taking a break
You can resume a course either from your Dashboard or from the e-Learning main page.
The course progress tracker on your Dashboard and on the main page of the e-Learning section will help you see your progress on any courses you’re taking and makes it easy to jump back in.
The following image is an example of the e-Learning main page of a member who has three courses in progress. The tracker shows what percent of the courses are completed. Clicking the Resume button will open the course overview page for the applicable course, in this case, Getting to know the internet.
On the course overview page for Getting to know the internet, (only the top part is reproduced for this example) we can see that this member has only completed the first three lectures. When a lecture has been completed, the dot beside the lecture title turns from grey to blue in colour. There is also a tally of how many of the courses are completed for each section (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert) in the upper right corner of the section index.
This member should click on the first incomplete title, indicated by a grey dot, in this example, “What are Cookies and how can they affect me” to resume the course.
The course will open to the lecture “What are Cookies and how can they affect me” and the member can continue on with the course.
Step 5: Progressing through the sections (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert)
If you are taking a micro course, there is only one group of lectures, followed by the quiz. Full courses are divided into Beginner, Intermediate and Expert lectures with a quiz after each section. In order to progress to Intermediate, you must complete all Beginner lectures and pass the Beginner section quiz. Similarly, to pass from Intermediate to Expert, you must complete all the Intermediate lectures, and pass the Intermediate section quiz. You may not skip ahead to a lecture in a more advanced section.
When you finish a micro course or one of the three sections of a full course (Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert), there will not be a “Next” tab at the bottom of the page. Instead, there will be a button to “Do Quiz”. In order to progress from here, you will need to pass the quiz to unlock the next learning section.
If you’re ready to do the quiz right away, click on the Do Quiz button. To do it later, exit the course by scrolling to the top of the page, and clicking the course title. The next time you resume the course, you can do the quiz by clicking Do Quiz on the course overview page.
For more information on doing the Quiz, see our guide How to Take a Bookmark e-Learning Quiz.
Step 6: Jumping to a particular lecture
At any point during or after the completion of a Bookmark e-learning course you wish to review a lecture that you’ve already completed, you can jump to that lecture from the course overview index page.
Just click on the lecture title that you’d like to see, and the course will open to that lecture.
If you are on one of the lecture pages, you can jump around to different lectures within the section (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert) by clicking the title in the box at the top right of the lecture page.
Step 7: Completing the Course
At the end of each course, there is a final quiz. Once you’ve read all the lectures and checked the “Completed” box for each one, you can take the final quiz to complete the course and earn your course badge!
